Your first week

Updated · 1 minute read

The first run takes about five minutes and every step can be skipped. Daryl starts by saying what it is, an AI and not a person, then asks you to try something small, a timer, before you sign in. After that it asks two yes-or-no questions, whether you are over 18 and in the US, and never a birthday.

The short interview

Daryl asks at most five questions: what you want help with, what a weekday looks like, anything it should never do, when it may interrupt you, and whether it should act on its own (Flow) or wait for you (Careful) in each area. It reads your answers back as a short list you can correct.

One reminder, one calendar, one page

Then it sets one real weekday reminder, offers to read a calendar link, and builds a first page from the goal you named. The morning brief is on from day one, at 7:00, and you can move it in Settings › Notifications.

The week after

During the first week Today shows at most one idea a day, such as pairing a watch or adding a money account, and on day seven a short recap. Nothing moves up a level without you choosing it.

Questions

What if I skip everything?

Daryl stays careful with money, health and the calendar, acts on the rest, sends at most three pings a day and connects to nothing.

Can I change my answers later?

Yes. Every answer from setup is in Settings › Privacy & memory under How Daryl works, and in your profile.
