DARYL is an AI assistant for your whole household, in private beta. Below are short answers to the questions people ask most: devices, setting up a household, kids, privacy, what works without the AI, undo, and deleting your data. For anything else, email hello@getdaryl.com.
Getting started
DARYL is in private beta. Join the waitlist on the home page and you'll get one email when it's your turn. The person who signs up becomes the household admin and can invite up to five more people.
Devices
DARYL runs on the web, as a Mac menu bar app, on Android (where it can be your default assistant and works with Android Auto), and on Wear OS watches. On iPhone, open getdaryl.com in Safari and add it to your home screen; there's no App Store app yet. You can talk, type or send a photo on any of them.
Status and outages
Live status for each part of the service is on the status page. Timers, alarms, reminders, lists and notes don't depend on the AI model, so they keep working during an outage.
Questions
What is DARYL?
An AI assistant for your whole household. It keeps your family's calendar, chores, bills, medications and appointments in one place, and reminds whoever is responsible.
How many people can be in a household?
Up to six. Each person has their own account and their own private chats.
Does DARYL work on iPhone?
Yes, through the web app. Open getdaryl.com in Safari and add it to your home screen. There's no App Store app yet.
Does it work on Android and in the car?
Yes. DARYL can be your default assistant on Android and works with Android Auto.
Can I use it on a watch?
Yes, on Wear OS. You can see today and talk to DARYL from your watch.
How do I add something from a paper flyer?
Take a photo and send it to DARYL. It adds the dates to the calendar and assigns the task to a person.
Can DARYL change things without asking?
You choose. Suggest changes nothing until you tap. Act with undo, the default, makes the change and gives you an hour to undo it. Act makes the change and tells you after. You can change this in Settings.
What if it gets something wrong?
Most changes have an Undo button. Each Sunday it also lists anything it got wrong that week.
Can kids use DARYL?
Kids get a parent-controlled profile with lists and stories, and no chat. Teens can chat, with a break reminder every three hours.
Does DARYL listen all the time?
No. DARYL never listens in the background. On devices with the wake word, listening for “Hey Daryl” happens on the device.
Can DARYL spend money?
No. It can read your budget and bills, but it can't move money.
Is our data used to train AI?
No. Your household's data isn't used to train AI models.
How is our data protected?
Shared lists, events and notes are encrypted with a key that belongs to your household. Deleting the household deletes the key.
Can I see what DARYL remembers?
Yes. Everything it saves is listed in Memory, and you can edit or delete any of it.
Can we delete everything?
Yes. Export your data, then delete the household in Settings. That also deletes the key your shared data was encrypted with.
Is DARYL a medical, legal or financial advisor?
No. It keeps track of medications, appointments and bills, but it doesn't give medical, legal or financial advice.
