Acceptable use policy

Daryl is for running your own life and household. These rules are part of the Terms of Service and apply to everyone in a household, to the bots and routines you set up, and to errands Daryl runs for you.

Summary

  • Use Daryl lawfully, for yourself and your household.
  • Don’t use it against other people, other people’s accounts or sites you have no right to use.
  • Don’t get around a household role, a parent’s settings or a child’s protections.
  • Don’t attack or overload the Service. Report security problems instead.

This summary is not part of the policy. The full text below applies.

Don’t use Daryl to harm people

  • to harass, threaten, stalk, intimidate or spy on anyone, including members of your own household;
  • to track someone’s location, read their records or watch their activity without their knowledge and permission;
  • to create or share sexual content involving minors, or content that sexualises, grooms or exploits a child in any way;
  • to promote violence, self-harm, or hatred against people because of who they are;
  • to deceive people, including impersonating someone, running scams or phishing, or creating fake reviews or records; or
  • to make decisions about other people’s credit, housing, employment, insurance or benefits.

Respect the household’s protections

  • Don’t add someone to your household under a false role, or add a child who isn’t yours.
  • Don’t sign in as another member, or use another member’s device to see what they haven’t shared with you.
  • Don’t try to get around a parent’s settings, a teen’s or child’s limits, a guest’s pass or a caregiver’s scope.
  • Don’t put other people’s information into Daryl without a good reason to keep it, and remove it when they ask and you can.

Use errands and connections lawfully

  • Add only websites and accounts you are allowed to use, and follow their terms.
  • Don’t use Daryl to buy or obtain anything illegal, to evade a website’s security, limits or bot checks, or to scrape it in bulk.
  • Don’t use Daryl to get into someone else’s account, or to collect other people’s personal information.
  • Don’t connect a model key, calendar or account that isn’t yours or your household’s to use.

Don’t attack or overload the Service

  • Don’t probe, scan or test the Service’s security except under our vulnerability disclosure rules, and never against another person’s account.
  • Don’t try to get Daryl to ignore its rules, reveal its instructions or act outside the permissions you gave it.
  • Don’t upload malware, or use Daryl to send spam or bulk messages.
  • Don’t overload the Service, automate it beyond the routines and bots it offers, resell it, or use it to build a competing service. Heavy use is covered in Fair use of plans.
  • Don’t copy, reverse-engineer or extract the Service’s software, models or instructions, except where the law allows.

What happens if a rule is broken

Daryl refuses requests that break these rules, and some refusals are logged as safety signals by type, without their content. If we find or are told about a breach, we act in proportion to it, and we never tell the account holder who reported it. Where someone is in danger, or the law requires it, we may report to the authorities.

How enforcement works

Every decision has a severity, and most step up only if it happens again. Each decision can count as a strike, and a strike stops counting 90 days after it was given. The usual steps, by how many strikes are still counting:

SeveritySteps
LowWarning, then Feature restriction (7 days), then Feature restriction (30 days), then Suspension (14 days)
MediumFeature restriction (7 days), then Feature restriction (30 days), then Suspension (14 days), then Account closure
HighSuspension (14 days), then Account closure
SevereAccount closure

A person can choose a lighter or heavier step when the facts call for it, and says why. Each decision comes with a statement of reasons in Settings › Account standing: what we did, which rule, the facts, and whether automated checks were involved. You can ask for a review within 30 days; a person answers within 14 days, and a reversed decision loses its limits and its strike. A suspended account can still read Account standing, ask for a review and export its records; a closed one can for 30 days.
