Daryl on your Mac

Updated · 1 minute read

On a Mac, Daryl lives in the menu bar. Press Option-Space to open it, hold Option-Command-D to talk while you hold the keys, and press Escape to stop. The app pairs with your account once and renews its own key after that.

Pairing

Open the app, choose Sign in, and approve the six-character code at getdaryl.com/pair from a browser where you are already signed in. The Mac never sees your password; it gets a key of its own that you can revoke from Settings › Devices.

Asking about what's on screen

Press Option-Shift-L to ask about what's on screen, or select text and press Control-Option-S to ask about the selection. Nothing is sent until you ask.

Letting Daryl use apps

When you ask Daryl to do something in a Mac app, it works through the app's own controls and shows each step. Option-Command-period stops a task at once. What it may use is listed in Settings › Computer.

Questions

Does the Mac app listen all the time?

No. It listens only while you hold the talk keys, or while 'Hey Daryl' is on, which runs on the Mac itself.
